How did the site come about?
I graduated from University a few years back, and during my time there when I was strapped for cash, I turned to popular reselling sites to fund my nights out and my creative projects instead. Getting £15 for my favourite trousers I’d bought for £40 (with the added postage fee’s & marketplace fees attached) never went a long way, so I was curious to see what else I could do with my pre-loved clothing.
I built up a relationship with someone who had a keen interest in women’s shoes – I’d give them my old, worn, smelly shoes & they would repay me with a big sum of money. It was a win-win for me & them. But when telling my family & friends about it in a nonchalant, naive way, I was responded with a lot of concern for my safety & the sexualised subject of it: “Does the guy know your address?”, “Can he track you down?”, “What happens if he does and he attacks you?”. I wasn’t fazed by these responses, as I’d built up a trusting friendship with the buyer & I also knew their circumstances, but understood completely why there were risks and concerns.
I introduced other people to the buyer and as the buyer got busier & popular I turned to the internet to see if there were any sites where I could sell my worn pieces of clothing to others alike. I was confronted with lots of sites charging extortionate membership fees & sites where it looked untrusting & seedy (I didn’t know & didn’t trust the kind of people behind them). I was also confronted with sites where sellers were primarily sex workers, and I felt a need to respect their area of work and their turf, as I was just someone looking to make some extra pocket money.
This didn’t leave me with a whole lot of options. Any times I tried to post my clothing on eBay or Depop, I was responded with a ban on that product for the sexual nature of the posting. So I decided to make my website for me, my friends & any other people out there that want to join. I wanted to make something that sellers can feel protected and safe on, but also the buyers. I’d heard sad stories from my buyer of times where they had been blackmailed, manipulated and robbed of their money and it made me feel disappointed and sad. Lots of people have fetishes, and as long as they are legal, consensual & make that person feel happy and liberated, then I never saw a fault and that they should be treated any differently. So I decided to start MooMee. for everyone and anyone, whether that be complete amateurs or professionals, I wanted to create something that resonated and made people feel as comfortable and safe as possible.
How do you think panty buying online has changed over the last few years?
I see that social media platforms are really powerful, not only to sell your panties or any extras but just to establish yourself as your own shop and brand! You can decide from posts what content you want to show and how you want to send your personality across and I feel it makes it so much more intimate having them platforms to the buyer and seller, as it also allows for messaging and DMs to take place to build relationships!
What advice do you have for new sellers, trying to get established?
Make an Instagram or Twitter account, look for sites that you’re willing to go on, but don’t fall down the loop hole of paying for membership fees and extortionate commission fees . That’s someone behind that website that doesn’t care about their sellers and is only trying to make as much money as possible. Respect yourself, know your worth, get creative and have fun with it!!
What advice do you have for new buyers?
My main advice when starting out would be to pay via business transfer on paypal unless you’ve built up a relationship and trust your seller. Unfortunately my first buyer who I sold my shoes to got scammed out of thousands of pounds and when I tried to help them by taking it to the police, there was no protection with bank transfers, so there was nothing the police could do. This upset me so much, as the person is lovely and never deserved that, so I always promised myself that MooMee. would only use Paypal until other payment services up their protection for both buyers and sellers!
What are you doing to help alleviate concerns about scamming?
Paypal. If bought via paypal (not the family and friends service) then Paypal will open a case if there is any foul play and the buyers can get their money back. I love this so much as I have been through situations on Depop and eBay where I’ve had to open a case and Paypal have never failed me.How are you different compared to other panty selling sites?
I’ve been there and done it. I’ve had the weird looks from family and friends followed by the “can I do it too?”, I understand the stigma but more than anything, I want to break the stigma. Other panty selling sites have created a platform, but I don’t believe they’ve created a community that is safe, understanding and empowering. If anyone is strapped for cash, I want them to feel like this is a safe and socially acceptable way of making some.
How much is it to join your site for sellers/buyers?
It is completely freeeeeee! I just take 10% commission for each product sold by a seller on my website. (Similar to eBay, Amazon, Depop ect)
What is the future of buying and selling panties online?
I hope the future is socially acceptable, safe & fun.
What does it take to be a successful panty seller?
Perseverance, constantly putting up new panties and products and being able to build great relationships with your buyers.
What new plans do you have on the horizon/just launched?
My site is not just for panty selling, but for all fetish selling and intimate clothing, so I would love to get more sellers on my platform who sell all different things, but also sellers from all types of backgrounds to promote inclusivity (A small plan trying to take one step at a time hehe)
